It is almost fifty years since I have felt this excited about a motorcycle project. Way back in 1975, I proposed an idea to my boss at a local newspaper in the north of England that would change my life and help propel the off-road sport in England to a whole new level.
Trials and Motocross News was a simple idea: a weekly newspaper devoted entirely to off-road motorcycles. The sport was in a slump back then, and the stimulus of a dedicated news source was an overnight success that helped lift the industry to new heights. In its heyday, T+MX had over forty thousand eager readers. The brand still exists forty-nine years later as a bi-monthly magazine.
The world has changed dramatically in those forty-nine years, and how we receive our information is the most obvious example. The internet has shaped a whole new world of instant and free news sources. We no longer must wait until Wednesday to see what happened at the races, and finding a new or used motorcycle has never been simpler and more detailed.
Motobilia is a new opportunity to help move the motorcycle industry once more. Unlike my previous newspaper, Motobilia is not restricted to just the off-road world. It’s an open invitation to anything two- or three-wheeled. Whether it’s road racing, street bikes, motocross, flat track, enduro, or cruisers, we will cover it all. We will also write about the people, the places, and amazing events that make our sport so exciting.
This is going to be an aspirational ride that we hope will make you look at this incredible sport through a whole new lens. We will show you the most astonishing technology and destinations you have never considered and talk to fascinating people who have helped shape our favorite sport.
Motobilia will also offer carefully curated experiences that you will never forget. Spend a few days riding one-on-one with a racing legend, tour famous museums with renowned historians, or ride the rugged trails through Iceland or Argentina. The destinations are unlimited, and the memories will last a lifetime.
If you have more practical needs Motobilia will also provide an online database of the most critical resources you might need. Whether it is anodizing, or wheel building you need help with, or anything in between, we will have all the information you need to keep your ride rolling. And if you don’t have a ride, we’ll list everything from Ariel to Zundapp in our used bike section.
Motobilia will be a new digital experience that opens up a world of two-wheeled possibilities. Come along and enjoy the ride, and let us know what you’ve always dreamed of doing on two wheels.
