1979 Yamaha HL500
In 1977, 4x world motocross champion Torsten Hallman created the iconic HL 500. In recent years, he has said it is the most replicated bike of all time. Like the Ford Cobra, the HL 500 represents the pinnacle of speed and style. The HL 500 also represents the re-emergence of four-stroke motocross machines during a time when the sport was exclusively dominated by two-stroke models. To say the HL500 was revolutionary is an understatement.
All HL500s are custom-built, as is this example.
Engine:
540cc / Mega Cycle cam, big valves, PVL electronic ignition, 38mm Mikuni, one-off stainless exhaust, braided stainless oil lines, UNI filter air cleaner in custom air box. OEM clutch, gaskets and seals.
Suspension:
'83 Yamaha YZ 43mm forks & Works Performance shocks
Wheels:
'83 YZ hubs/brakes, stainless spokes, magnesium backing plates, Excel rims, and Dunlop tires.
Controls:
Renthal Twinwall bars, Phoenix grips, Works Connection clutch/ comp. rel. assy, side-pull throttle and all new cables. Wide-style footpegs.
Bodywork:
Yamaha front and rear fenders, YZ125 alloy gas tank with billet cap, HL side panels. Tanks and side panels are freshly painted and clear-coated.
The bike had approx. 5 hours on it before it was extensively gone through. The engine only required some fine tuning, and the chassis was not re-powdercoated.
It has not been ridden since it was refurbished, but it is absolutely race-ready if someone is so inclined.
