1997 Jeremy McGrath #1 jersey
Jeremy McGrath signed #1 jersey from 1997.
A big part of memorabilia values are based on the significance and rarity of the item, as well as the back story that goes with it. This jersey has both.
At the end of 1996, McGrath left his long time home at Honda and signed late in the off season with Suzuki. This gave Suzuki the prestige of having the #1 plate for the '97 supercross season.
It gave Jeremy and team boss, Roger DeCoster precious little time to sort out the bike and for Jeremy to get used to it. The opening round saw MC on the ground twice at the hands of his former Honda teammate, Steve Lamson. During the season the team struggled with engine issues and a fair amount of bad luck. Regardless, McGrath did what McGrath was good at, winning races. By the end of the season he finished a very close second to rival Jeff Emig in the championship.
The following year Jeremy went to Yamaha, making his '97 season his only season on Suzuki.
